My recent sewing projects

Here's what I've been up to, sewingwise:

P5040002_2

The shirt is my adaptation of New Look 6621, and the skirt is self-drafted.  You can't really tell from the picture, but the skirt has inside-out French seams, making nice vertical lines down the mid sides of the front and back (I got that idea from a Vogue pattern).  The shirt is a bit brightly colored for me...I usually go for earth tones...but I had the material and was feeling ready for spring!  It's a stretch cotton so it fits really comfortably and wrinkles less.  I like the pattern and will use it again, now that I've made all my adjustments on it.  The two pieces weren't necessarily meant to go together, but they teamed up nicely for the picture, I thought.

On to other subjects...Harry's in big trouble!  Turns out he's been stealing from the neighbors.  We were aware of a few mishaps..."borrowed" gardening tools and the like...but we got a call from a neighbor last night that Harry had chewed up his baseball mitt, and two of his bicycle helmets were mysteriously missing.  One of the helmets was discovered this morning, its condition, shall we say discretely, a bit worse for wear.  So...he'll be getting some new helmets and a mitt on us, and Harry will be a bit more supervised outside!

Kewpie

P4080007

Harry brought this home the other day from God knows where, and David decided it was worth a cleanup.  So here the kewpie sits, in the sink, receiving a little bath.

What Harry's doing today...

P2220018

...and what I get to do is stay home from work!  A foot of snow is expected today, and our driveway hasn't been plowed, so I'm not going anywhere.  Whoo-hoo!!!!

My dish is done!

I'm so pleased!  Here's my first-ever pottery project, glazed and fired.  It's not fancy, and it definitely has flaws, but I love the way the glaze turned out and I'm very satisfied with my first attempt.  I might have to go back and do more!

Here's Harry, looking pensive after watching the Westminster Dog Show.  You see, Wirehaired Vizslas are still not recognized by the American Kennel Club, and he's disappointed.  Poor Harry.

Harry and the plastic water bottle

Harry found a plastic water bottle outside, and who knew?  It was the best toy ever!  Here's what happened:

A new swap!

2ndswapstormephotoI just signed up for Storme's 2nd Annual Handmade Holiday Swap...you can get more info at her blog, but basically you make a gift for your swap partner and include a few extras.  I've only got a week before the send-out date, so I've got to get to work!

In other news, here's a picture of my dad's Airedale, Darwin, waiting for his favorite treat...an apple!

My dad's doggie!

Img_2605_6 Here are some pics of my dad and Barb's newly adopted dog!  I flew down to Dallas (where my dad lives) and we drove to pick him up yesterday in Waco, TX.  The "dog whisperer" who has been training him for a long time did more than an hour-long handover training in the parking lot of a Sam's Club.  The doggie, who was named "Dr. Who" but may get a name change (or not; they're still trying to decide!), is wonderfully sweet!  He's been nothing but a pleasure since we picked him up.  My dad had an Airedale as a kid, and has always wanted another one...so they went through an Airedale rescue organization to get this guy.  Isn't he cute?

Harry complains!

Harry, at times, has a lot to say.  Here he was telling me to stop taking pictures and go outside with him.  Quite persuasive, don't you think?P1030320 P1030321P1030322  P1030323

This is Harry.

P1030148 He's a year and 3 months old, and he's a Wirehaired Viszla.  He looks quite serious here, because David's in the kitchen cooking dinner...which is no laughing matter as far as Harry is concerned.  When not "helping out" with meal prep, Harry is a sweet, silly boy.  I'm sure he'll pop up in this blog from time to time, but consider this his formal introduction.
